Wireless LANs – Convenience or Security

Wireless LANs have revolutionized the way in whic h people communicate and share information. The market for wireless applications and hardware is growing at a phenomenal rate. With wireless networks proliferating rapidly, security of these networks becomes a major concern. Networks using the IEEE 802.11b standard have been proven inherently insecure. Hence, there exists the need for a fool -proof mechanism to secure WLANs from hacking, sniffing and other forms of unauthorized access. The goal of this paper is to analyze the various security policies presen tly in force and provide a platform for the development of a more robust and secure architecture .
